Fun Activities !

Learning through play

The children at happy hippos will love the activities and resources that they can explore. Although some activities will be planned, the children will be given the freedom and choice to decide which toys they would like to play with and they will also have the opportunity to contribute their own ideas within games and activities.

Here are examples of some of the activities that the children will participate in and that will aid different areas of their development:

Language and Literacy

Enjoying stories, singing songs and rhymes, sharing news, participating within discussions, problem solving and free writing. Also visits to the local library.

Physical Development

Dancing to music, playing at the park, going on walks, playing hopscotch. Fine motor activities will include using children's scissors, threading, tracing, painting.

Mathematical Development

Fitting shapes into shape sorters, counting objects, singing counting rhymes, measuring, drawing shapes and numbers and exploring volume through water play.

Personal Social and Emotional Development

Group games such as roll the ball, pass the parcel and the farmers in his den, shared activities such as baking, building a castle with lego and making a junk model dinosaur, discussing feelings and emotions and sharing work with others that the children are proud of.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Planting seeds, exploring different cultures and festivals, learning about people and animals, talking about the weather, watching ice melt and exploring a wide range of topics such as transport, keeping healthy, fairy tales and different countries.

Of course, this list is by no means exhaustive!
